The Soo Indians have signed their second player for the 2009-10 hockey season. Matt Samuel from Three Forks, Montana, has committed to play hockey for us next year.
Matt joins fellow Butte Roughriders teammate, Levi Blom, in moving from Junior hockey in the NORPAC league to play hockey with the Soo Indians Midget AAA team. Matt is a 5-10, 170 pound defencemen born Jan 8, 1991. Last season with the Butte Roughriders, he played in 46 games, scored 5 goals and 16 assists for 21 points total.
Coach Jerry Harwood comments that, "Matt is a solid player who will bring solid defensive play with skill and speed. He's going to make a great addition to strengthen this team."
Coach Corbiere, when asked why Matt would move from Junior Hockey to Midget AAA commented, "It's not always about the level of hockey you play for. You can play Junior hockey and get stuck there if you have no exposure. I can't say why, exactly, Matt chose to come here, but I can suspect that the opportunites for advance are much stronger with this organization that where he was playing prior. I, too, am very glad he committed to us.
Corbiere finished off is statement with, "I'm getting real excited about next year already and we have only two comittments, so far!"
